Indiscriminate Criticism Direct at People Close to Barbie Hsu
First, Wang Ziqi pointed out Yongjie’s outfit and said, “If you truly loved Barbie Hsu, you should not have worn red or green for the seven days since her death. If you were truly sad, you would not have worn red.”
In response, Jia Yongjie argued, “What’s the problem? Barbie likes beautiful things. That’s why we all should be beautiful,” and “We don’t believe in that superstition.”
Wang Ziqi then changed the subject and mentioned the late Barbie Hsu’s burial, telling Jia Yongjie, “You are not qualified to be Barbie Hsu’s friend because you did not stop the green burial. This burial is an act of not loving Barbie and her two children.”
He also criticized Barbie’s younger sister, Dee Hsu, saying, “I don’t understand by what right you arranged the funeral and chose the tree burial. Why should Barbie Hsu be buried in a tree without a burial site?”
Wang Ziqi even mentioned Taiwanese independence and threatened, “I will XXX you all to pieces. I like to administer justice whenever I’m bored.” In response, Jia Yongjie calmly replied, “Just give it a try.”
Previously, the same director expressed his condolences to Barbie Hsu’s passing on social media, stating, “I was once a fan of Barbie Hsu, and I was deeply saddened by the news of her passing.”

However, he then turned his criticism toward her husband Koo Jun-yup, saying, “I cannot accept the hypocritical and ruthless public statement made by this old Korean man. Instead of genuine grief, all I see in the articles are calculated responses.” He added, “Please show respect to the living and let the deceased rest in peace.”
Controversy and False Rumors Following Barbie Hsu’s Passing
Barbie Hsu tragically passed away on February 2 while traveling in Japan with her family. The cause of death was reported as influenza complicated by pneumonia. Her sudden passing shocked fans in Taiwan, South Korea, and beyond.

However, as news of her death spread, false rumors quickly flooded Chinese social media. Some baseless claims alleged that Koo Jun-yup had taken out numerous life insurance policies on his wife before her death. Another rumor suggested that Hsu’s ex-husband, Wang Xiaofei, had paid for the private jet transporting her remains back to Taiwan.
Adding to the controversy, more fabricated stories surfaced, including claims that Hsu’s younger sister, Dee Hsu, had been happy about her death and that Koo Jun-yup had financially benefited from her passing. Speculation also arose regarding the fate of Barbie Hsu’s approximately $90 million USD fortune.
Koo Jun-yup Speaks Out Against False Accusations
Frustrated by the ongoing rumors, Koo Jun-yup released a statement saying, “These fake news stories about insurance and expenses are nothing but attempts to tarnish my family and cause harm. I can believe there are such cruel people in this world. I beg you, please, let our beloved Hsu rest in peace.”

Addressing the inheritance issue, he clarified, “The wealth Barbie accumulated was the result of her hard work to support her loved ones. I have no claim to any of it. I will ensure that my mother-in-law has full control over the estate. As for her children, I will take legal steps to protect their inheritance so that no malicious individuals can take advantage of them before they reach adulthood.”
